Health Research, Inc. (HRI) Roswell Park Division is seeking a full-time Research Technologist. The Research Technologist supports clinical and scientific research activities throughout the organization under the direction of department supervisors; assists with or conducts experiments and procedures under the direction of a supervisor; presents findings including preliminary interpretation for further review; inputs clinical and research information into the designated database system; conducts routine maintenance of equipment and machinery as needed; compiles and enters data into the designated database system; generates reports; conducts preliminary data interpretation; designs spreadsheet algorithms and/or simplify data reduction; generates and assembles tables or graphs of processed data; consults with laboratory personnel to interpret preliminary data; conducts literature and publication searches; obtains references; maintains reference files in the laboratory. The Research Technologist designs and performs experiments as indicated by a clinical or research supervisor; may conduct research and analyze drugs, blood, cells, tissues and other samples relative to clinical and scientific research; obtains samples, cultures and/or compounds for purposes of assisting or conducting experiments or research; develops new methods for extracting samples and separating compounds under the direction of supervisor; conducts radioactive surveys and radioactive waste removal/disposal; may instruct clinical, research, and/or other personnel on various procedures and database applications; purchases all stock solutions and supplies relative to laboratory use and maintenance, supplies for experiments, and other inventory, as needed; tracks orders from inception to completion; maintains laboratory order records including receiving information; places received items in the appropriate location; maintains the cleanliness of common instrument areas and common laboratory areas; places clean glassware utilized in the laboratory in the appropriate location; performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments; performs simple repairs on equipment and instruments in the laboratory as needed; handles and obtains samples from the animal research facility; handles and instructs individuals on the appropriate animal handling techniques; transfers stock cultures of established cell lines as required; maintains the sterile integrity of designated samples; maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards; enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops; prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed; attends meetings as required; performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
The applicant must have a Master’s degree in a clinical or scientific discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in a clinical or scientific discipline and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a laboratory setting. The preferred candidate will have experience with patient derived sample processing in a research lab, experience with animal research models and with gene and protein assays. The preferred candidate will have knowledge of oncology-based research, excellent verbal and written communication skills, significant attention to detail and self-directed and Strong customer service skills. The preferred candidate will also possess the ability to work in fast pace environment; take initiative; possess a strong ability to multi-task and organize; possess the ability to perform duties and problem solve with minimal supervision and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and graphic design for presentations.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
