Health Research, Inc. (HRI) Roswell Park Division is seeking a full-time Research Associate. The Research Associate will perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for the purposes of original research which generally are within a well-defined body of scientific knowledge and typically contribute to larger research efforts of independent investigators. The Research Associate will lead and design laboratory research projects and experiments using human biological specimens, cell lines and cancer mouse models. Will perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for the purposes of original research including molecular (RNA,DNA, protein, PCR), immunology (flow cytometry, proliferation), and mouse models (inoculation, drug treatment, small animal imaging). Will collect data from each experiment, calculate results of research studies and record information appropriately. Will assist with planning specific research procedures; develop and troubleshoot new techniques that have been written up in the literature; propose alternative experimental procedures to the principal investigator; set up, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized laboratory equipment. Will utilize spreadsheet and graphics software to provide final results for interpretation by the supervisor; will assist with care and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies; ensure that the necessary supplies are available; periodically will order inventory and supplies as needed. Will supervise or participate in the technical training of new staff and students in the laboratory; demonstrate basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents, and students; review research literature for pertinent information and attend conferences and courses to keep abreast of research field and maintain laboratory inventory and records. Will appropriately plan reagent preparation and instrumentation; process and prepare pre-clinical and clinical samples as needed. Will maintain established laboratory policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. Enhance professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in inservice meetings and workshops. Will prepare written documentation including grant submissions, manuscripts and abstracts for meeting presentation and laboratory budgets. Maintain , distribute, analyze and project information for proposals. Attend meetings as required. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree and the equivalent of eighteen months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of thirty months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment. The preferred candidate will possess the following: three to five years of prior hands on lab experience; a Master's degree in scientific field; Prior publication record and/or oral/scientific presentations; and experience working with students and trainees or training others.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
