Description of Duties:
The Research Associate performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for the purposes of original research which generally are within a well-defined body of scientific knowledge and typically contribute to larger research efforts of independent investigators. The Research Associate will support and contribute to original scientific research, including: effectively working with the supervisor and other lab members; performing a variety of routine and specialized experiments and procedures under the direction of a supervisor; preparing and analyzing environmental and biological samples following established QC/QA rules; maintaining analytical data and performing data analysis and interpretation; preparing written material and illustrations for journal publication and conference presentations. The Research Associate will prepare weekly progress reports to the supervisor, participate in the weekly laboratory meeting and any meetings as needed. The Research Associate will also keep accurate and detailed research record; maintain clean and safe laboratory work area and laboratory instruments; periodically backup databases; order laboratory consumables; and follow biosafety guidelines and prepare biosafety reports to adhere to established institutional safety policies and procedures.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree and the equivalent of eighteen months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of thirty months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment. The preferred candidate will have a master’s degree in a science-related field. The preferred candidate will have at least three years of full-time laboratory experience and be proficient in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g. GC and LC-MS); have experience with environmental health related research, including analyzing environmental and biological samples (e.g. blood, urine, oral fluids), and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
