The Laboratory Technician assists with ongoing bio-behavioral studies of tobacco product use. He/she will acquire, track, and inventory products for testing and necessary laboratory supplies following established procurement methods. The Laboratory Technician will investigate and assess physical and chemical properties of tobacco products, including the selection and utilization of appropriate tests. He/she will prepare standardized products for use in other experiments according to established methods. The employee will coordinate with related laboratories to facilitate timely preparation, analysis, and reporting. He/she will monitor laboratory equipment performance and coordinate maintenance and repair as necessary.
The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; or an Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time laboratory experience. The preferred candidate will have a strong foundation in basic laboratory measurement (e.g., pH, titration, mass), sample handling, and safety procedures; have familiarity with gas and/or liquid chromatography; possess the ability to prepare documentation about products, including the preparation of formulas for costing purposes, ingredient listings for regulatory bodies, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and documentation for the production of reference products; be familiar with GLP and/or GCP processes in research.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
