Description of Duties:
The Laboratory Technician performs technical laboratory work in a scientific research laboratory. The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory procedures within the Bioanalytics, Metabolomics and Pharmacokinetics Shared Resource under the supervision of a project lead to support investigator-led studies, which typically contribute to larger collaborative research projects and grants. They will assist in the development and validation of analytical methods to analyze anticancer drugs and their metabolites, biomarkers, and endogenous compounds in a variety of biological matrices (e.g., plasma, urine, cell pellets, tissues, formulated products, etc.) using LC-MS/MS, HPLC with UV and fluorescence detection, AA, or ELISA. The Laboratory Tehcnician will also assist in the maintenance and care of laboratory equipment, laboratory supplies and related inventories, tracking and storage of specimens for laboratory analysis, maintenance of established departmental policies for quality assurance programs, safety and other compliance standards, and enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational seminars, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops. They should ideally have a strong working knowledge of chemistry and LC-MS/MS techniques in addition to sample processing techniques such as protein precipitation, liquid/liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, and derivatizations. The individual will assist in the timely completion of projects and their corresponding study records, checking results for completeness and accuracy, and troubleshooting assay and other technical problems as necessary.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; or an Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time laboratory experience. The preferred candidate will have working knowledge of chemistry, HPLC, GLP/GMP/SOP compliance, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel. They will also have additional capabilities regarding operation of triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, and experience in bioanalytical analysis and/or targeted/untargeted metabolomics.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
