Description of Duties:
The Laboratory Technician performs technical laboratory work in a scientific research laboratory. The Laboratory Technician designs and conducts independent projects, conducts immunohisochmeistry using paraffin embedded tissue sections from whole tissue sections or tissue microarrays, and collects digital images using microscopy and visually score immunostain intensity. They also execute DNA, RNA and protein extractions and perform cell culture, qRT-PCR and western blot techniques. The Laboratory Technician also analyzes and interprets experimental data, optimizes experimental protocols, and operates and maintains automated laboratory equipment. They are also responsible for preparing, ordering, and maintaining reagents and solutions.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field; or an Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time laboratory experience. The preferred candidate will have a Master's Degree or five years of full-time laboratory experience. They will also have experience with qRT-PCR, Western blot, cell culture, and immunohistochemistry and knowledge of HIPAA, as it relates to tissue samples/patient data for research.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
