Description of Duties:
The Laboratory Animal Services Attendant performs tasks that indirectly impact the health and well-being of laboratory animals: cleaning, processing, and sterilizing rodent microisolator cages and other associated equipment as needed. Works as a team with other staff to process and handle up to 1500-2000 microisolator cages per day. Operates mechanized cage washing equipment to sanitize and sterilize microisolator caging. Performs and maintains record keeping such as equipment inventory tracking, sanitization logs and other documents as necessary. May perform a full range of activities that involve direct animal contact, animal husbandry duties and sanitization duties as needed. Occasional weekend and holiday work as required.
Applicants must have a High School diploma or G.E.D. The preferred candidate will have prior experience working in a laboratory animal facility where duties involved indirect and/or direct animal contact and have certification through the AALAS Technician program.
Incumbents must obtain certification as a Lab Animal Technician from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) within the one year probationary period for this position as a condition of continued employment.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
