Health Research, Inc. (HRI) Roswell Park Division is seeking a full-time HRI scientist. This position involves challenging and creative opportunities for a talented and independent scientist to contribute to novel algorithm and other software developments to support high-throughput genomic analyses. The position is with the widely used and respected Bioconductor project (https://bioconductor.org) for the analysis and comprehension of high throughput genomic data. The work will be in R, with additional opportunities in C, C++ , workflow, and other programming paradigms as needed for projects identified and pursued by the successful applicant. Individuals with an interest in scalable cloud-based analysis and comprehension of large public genomic data are particularly encouraged to apply. The position also involves participation in day-to-day project activities, including new package review, maintaining internal and contributed packages, and contribution to training and outreach activities.
The applicant must have a M.D. or PhD in an appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in an appropriate field. The preferred candidate will have courses or degrees in biological sciences, independent scientific research experience, e.g., as post-doctoral associate or research scientist, and R programming experience. They will also have additional programming experience, including shell, C, C++ , python, and/or scientific workflow languages and participation in open source software development, e.g., as R package author. They will have effective communication skills as demonstrated through lecturing, teaching, tutoring and/or publication experience.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
