Description of Duties:
The HRI Scientist will have training and research interests in psychology or health behavior focusing on tobacco cessation. The HRI Scientist will be in the Department of Behavioral Health. The HRI Scientist will work with the Roswell Park Cessation Service, which conducts phone- and technology-based interventions and research for patients and contracted public and private Quitlines and would be expected to work closely with that team to develop collaborative grants and protocols. The Cessation Services Program operates the New York State Smoker's Quitline (NYSSQL), one of the most active Quitlines in the U.S., serving 75,000 people per year and providing services such as counseling and nicotine replacement therapies. The HRI Scientist will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and staff to utilize databases and capabilities of the following departmental research and service programs to seek grant support to advance tobacco cessation science and to improve departmental and Cancer Center cessation services. Some duties of the HRI Scientist include conducting original scientific research on tobacco cessation, developing and conducting analytic studies, managing research projects and programs, competing for peer-review funded research, and publishing/presenting research findings at professional meetings.
Applicants must have a M.D. or PhD in an appropriate field; or a Master’s degree in an appropriate field. The preferred candidate will have a Doctoral Degree in psychology, health behavior, behavioral economics or related fields in public health.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
