Description of Duties:
The Center for Personalized Medicine is focused on molecular genetics of human cancers and there will be the opportunity to interface with multiple facets of cancer discovery and clinical application. The Biostatistician will be consulting on experimental design with students and postdocs in the laboratory; data QC and statistical analysis; integration and visualization of data from multiple platforms. Will design clinical and scientific studies with statistical design principles under the supervision of the Director/Chairperson. Will use and maintain computer databases for research projects; conducts analyses of biomedical data with statistical software; writes statistical and data analyses sections of clinical protocols, research grant proposals, reports and biomedical publications. Prepares tables, graphs, reports etc. for presentations. May present work at local and national meetings and may work with junior and senior staff.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Biometry or a related field.
Seeking highly motivated and creative computational biologists. The preferred candidate will have experience in the analysis of molecular data (gene expression and/or sequencing) and a solid programming and analytical background are required. The candidate will preferably have a postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) and/or significant experience in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology; good programming/scripting skills (e.g. R, Perl, Python) and a working knowledge of a range of bioinformatics software tools and database resources. The ideal candidate should have experience in the use of statistical methods and/or software packages for analyzing high-throughput sequencing data or microarray data, especially using R and associated Bioconductor packages. The role requires excellent communication skills, involving regular interaction'with researchers and other bioinformaticians as well as contributing to manuscripts and grants writing. Good time management skills to support multiple rejects concurrently, with the ability to work well in a team are essential.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
