Description of Duties

The Laboratory Technician performs technical laboratory work in a Bio-behavioral Health scientific research laboratory; Supports research associates; Performs all lab operations under the guidance of senior research staff. Administers brain stimulation using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) coil and related equipment; Demonstrates a thorough understanding of how to use Brainsight Neuro-navigation software and Magstim TMS equipment; Operates and cares for laboratory equipment; maintains laboratory supplies and related inventory; Participates in and performs assigned phases of various scientific research projects as assigned; Demonstrates proficiency in recruitment, screening, consenting, scheduling, and otherwise professionally interacting with study participants. Uses computers to organize and analyze laboratory research efforts; Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards; Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading literature as assigned and participating in in-service meetings and workshops; Prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed; Attends meetings as required; Performs other related duties as assigned or requested; Demonstrates awareness of the needs of the team in terms of the lab tech’s job duties.


Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field or an Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time laboratory experience. The preferred candidate will be familiar with a personal computer and Microsoft Office products such as Excel, email, and calendar programs as well as related laboratory information systems. They will demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks as per a general list provided and demonstrate the ability to engage in appropriate protocols in emergency situations. The preferred candidate will have a working knowledge of instrumentation/procedures and performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting; have good knowledge of laboratory safety precautions; and have a working knowledge of procedures of administering TMS and using Brainsight neuro-navigation software.

This is a grant-funded position.  Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
