We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented candidate with a Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering, computer science, cognitive psychology, the biomedical sciences, or a field related to neuroscience to join the Mind Maps Project at the Applied Technology Laboratory for Advanced Surgery (ATLAS) Program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. We are planning to start a new artificial intelligence lab at Roswell Park and this candidate will be actively involved in this initiative.
We are broadly interested in researching medical and surgical challenges. Projects in our lab include, but are not limited to, surgeons’ surgical skill evaluation in robot-assisted surgery environment by using surgeons’ physiological data, mental health evaluation of cancer patients after oncologic surgery, and rehabilitation progress monitoring.
- Perform machine learning and data analysis methods and algorithms
- Perform image processing and feature extraction
- Develop peer-reviewed Journal and Conference drafts
- Present results in medical and engineering conferences and workshops
- Attend regular group meetings
Experience with image processing, feature extraction, and machine learning is required. Experience programming with MATLAB and familiarity with the Linux environment is highly encouraged. The best candidates will be experienced individuals interested in human cognition and the development of new methods for applying deep learning on physiological data.
The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, possess excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, an ability to troubleshoot technical neurophysiological issues, a demonstrated track record of publications and project completion, and the ability to work both independently and with others. Additional responsibilities include manuscript and grant preparation, literature and manuscript review, and presentations at local seminars and national meetings. An initial appointment will be made for one year, with the possibility of extension based upon performance.
