Description of Duties

The laboratory of Dr. Renier Brentjens in the Department of Medicine is looking for a postdoctoral candidate to work on a research project aiming to generate novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells specifically targeted to antigens for the treatment of cancer.  The specific research project involves usage and identification of antigens for targeted cell therapies, CAR design, and experimental models to validate antitumor capacity.  The selected individual will perform studies in human in vitro models (and potentially mouse in vitro and in vivo models) to validate and enhance ability of CAR T cells to be used as effective cell therapy.  The experiments will involve the analyses of immune cell functions and may involve mouse models of cancer.  The candidate will be involved in preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant applications, with the expectation of developing first author papers and contributing (as a co-author) to papers of other members of the team.

Qualifications

Ph.D. or MD/PhD in Immunology (or a related field)

The candidate should have prior experience with commonly used laboratory methods and in vitro models to study biology of immune cells and cancer.  Expertise in cancer immunology or general experience in immunotherapy and related assays is required.  Experience with mouse models of cancer and immunotherapy is recommended, but not required.  The candidate must be able to work independently, develop and carry out several scientific projects simultaneously, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have a proven track record of publication in the areas of cancer immunology and/or immunotherapy.
