Description of Duties

A postdoctoral research affiliate position is available in the Department of Cancer Genetics and Genomics, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY. The focus of the research program is the genomics of tumor suppression and tumor surveillance involving mouse models of prostate cancer, and correlative patient studies.

This position is ideal for a researcher with a strong background in biology and interested in additional bioinformatics training.  The incumbent will direct or manage independent projects in the bench portion of the laboratory feeding back into bioinformatics with the opportunity for increasing informatics responsibilities.    Alternatively, applicants with terminal degrees in statistics, computer science, or data science with a demonstrated interest in cancer genetics and an interest in a career in cancer biology are encouraged to apply.

The incumbent will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, computational biologists and clinicians. The Eng group is a computational biology research group working with big genomic data (bulk RNAseq, scRNAseq, protein-protein interaction) in the context of immune targets and biomarkers. Close collaborators on these projects include Nastiuk lab which focuses on therapy resistance in mouse models, the Krolewski lab on immune surveillance, and the Chatta group on clinical GU immuno-oncology.

Qualifications

Biology-background applicants should have a doctoral degree within 5 years and experience in techniques such as tissue/cell culture and RNA/DNA/Protein analysis.   Applicants must be able to work independently, self-motivated, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Informatics-only background applicants should have evidence of at least 3 years of R programming.  A doctoral degree in a data science field with an interest in directing bench projects is preferred.

Applicant Instructions

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV, and 3 letters of recommendation. These should be sent by email to Dr. Kevin Eng (Kevin.Eng@RoswellPark.org) with the subject line “Postdoctoral position, Cancer Informatics”
