The Roswell Park Alliance Foundation’s Director of Development Marketing and Communications is responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of results-oriented internal and external communication, media relations, and marketing campaigns to support the fundraising goals of the organization. The Director ensures effective, mission-aligned and forward-thinking communication that upholds the brand standards of both the hospital and foundation to all target audiences and strategic integration of marketing communications strategies between Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Alliance Foundation. Provides counsel on fundraising-related communication positioning to hospital leadership, Board of Directors, division leaders, and other senior leaders across Roswell Park and the Alliance Foundation.

Develops and manages implementation of strategic integrated marketing communications campaigns in support all programs and events directed towards donors and prospective donors, including special events, corporate partnerships and sponsorship, major gift campaigns, and other initiatives.
Drives the public and media relations strategies across all Alliance Foundation programming, ensuring alignment of messaging with hospital communications strategies and maximizing the positioning and promotion of innovative research, new technology, products and services, and expert staff to drive revenue for the Foundation.
Leads crisis communications strategy and plan activation for the Alliance Foundation.
Serves as the primary point of contact for development-related media inquiries, interview requests, etc.; responds in a timely manner, while exercising independent judgment and discretion. Coordinates media-related events, prepares spokespersons for media engagements and maintains close relationships with media influencers/journalists.
Fosters productive working relationships and effective communication between cross-discipline teams within the Alliance Foundation and hospital marketing departments, as well as with program volunteers as needed.
Provides direction and oversight to all contributing team members to ensure creativity, accuracy and overall effectiveness of all written, digital and multimedia communication, including case statements, websites, videos and other fundraising communication tools.
Works collaboratively across the academic, clinical and research enterprises of Roswell Park to build corporate social responsibility into its philanthropic strategy to position the Center to more effectively compete across all mission.
Manages the brand image for the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, in close coordination with leadership and the hospital team, focused on driving revenue growth for the Foundation.
Recognizes and maximizes opportunities for integration between hospital and development initiatives
Provides direction for donor website content development and updates, publication integration to mobile and web applications and web promotions/advertising.
Provides data analysis, research and statistical support for projects, including (but not limited to) strategic, financial/budget and operational planning, market analyses and data reports and mapping and analysis in support of direct mail programs and other fundraising products.
Leads staff in identifying prospective audiences/and or markets and develops compelling and effective marketing strategies to maximize engagement registrations and fundraising.
Stays abreast of marketing and communications trends and best practices, both within and outside of industry, to recommend new approaches in support of strategic initiatives. Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, distributing and reading current literature, conducting and participating in in-service meetings and workshops.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards.
Prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
The Director of Development Marketing and Communications reports to the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center with a dotted line to the Vice President, Development/Chief Development Officer and the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications/Chief Marketing Officer. The incumbent has the authority to make decisions and commitments of a broad nature, occasionally requiring consultation with superiors for their recommendations. Decisions are varied and based on well-defined guidelines and practices.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree and the equivalent of 8 - 10 years of full-time experience in integrated marketing communications strategy, crisis communication and community relations. They must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-productive environment. They also must have collaborative and team building, prioritization skills, as well as relationship management skills.
