Description of Duties:
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park seeks to recruit an academic Cytopathologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with fellowship training and board certification/eligibility to support a rapidly growing Cytopathology service and expanding Institute clinical and research programs. The Division offers one ACGME accredited Cytopathology fellowship position per year and a yearlong Master of Science Cytotechnologist course. The Department is collegial, collaborative, and fast paced with an academic mission.
The successful candidate will join a Cytopathology staff of three fellowship trained and board certified Cytopathologists, five ASCP certified cytotechnologists and three technicians with an overall clinical volume of more than 8000 cytopathology cases.
Rapid on-site adequacy evaluation is provided in a state of the art cytopathology suite immediately adjacent to the Institute’s five Endoscopy units. A cytopathologist performed FNA service is offered for palpable superficial masses. A robust translational research support facility in the Department of Pathology offers a wide range of services including automated IHC, TMA construction, DNA/RNA extraction, laser capture microdissection, and digital imaging. In addition, Genome/Exome wide tumor sequencing and an integrated Clinical Data Network will further enhance translational research opportunities.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide the full range of cytopathology expertise including performance of FNA’s. In addition, participation in support of the Institute’s multidisciplinary tumor boards and translational research activities is expected. Development of an independent research program, either clinical or translational is encouraged and will be supported.
Roswell Park, founded in 1898, is the first and oldest National Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since its inception, RPCI has provided state-of-the-art cancer diagnosis and treatment, conducted basic, translational, and clinical research, and pioneered new treatment modalities.
Candidates must be AP or AP/CP board certified and have successfully completed an ACGME accredited Cytopathology fellowship leading to board certification or eligibility. Attainment of a New York State Medical license will be required.
