The Telemetry Technician monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern or rate variances, using telemetry equipment;. The Telemetry Technician reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm and rate pattern, current pattern and rate and prior variances, observes screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm and rat, informs nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient, and initiates EMS if necessary. They also measure length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout, using calipers, and post information on patient records, answer inquiries concerning patients from medical staff, perform other unit tasks, and obtain patient vital signs by using appropriate monitoring devices. They chart vitals for patients in the electronic medical record, inform nursing staff regarding abnormal vitals so that they can be addressed, may distribute food trays and/or water to patients as appropriate, stock supply carts, remove soiled linen bags and/or patient food trays, distribute linen to patient rooms and may perform clerical support functions in an assigned inpatient unit of the organization as needed.
Applicants must have Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers and an Associate’s degree in a health or science related field and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in direct patient care; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience as an EMT Intermediate, Paramedic or in an equivalent role requiring the monitoring of EKG/arrhythmias; or Matriculation in a Nursing degree program, having completed at least one year of coursework. The preferred candidate will have related certification, will currently be a nursing student, and will have telemetry/ECG monitoring experience.
