The Telemetry Technician will monitor heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern or rate variances, using telemetry equipment; reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm and rate pattern, current pattern and rate and prior variances; observes screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm and rate; informs nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient; initiates EMS if necessary; measures length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout, using calipers, and post information on patient records; answers inquiries concerning patients from medical staff; performs other unit tasks; obtains patient vital signs by using appropriate monitoring devices; charts vitals for patients in the electronic medical record; informs nursing staff regarding
abnormal vitals so that they can be addressed; may distribute food trays and/or water to patients as appropriate; stocks supply carts; removes soiled linen bags and/or patient food trays; distributes linen to patient rooms; may perform clerical support functions in an assigned inpatient unit of the Institute as needed.
Applicants must have a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers.
Applicants must also have an Associate’s degree in a health or science related field and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in direct patient care; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience as an EMT Intermediate, Paramedic or in an equivalent role requiring the monitoring of EKG/arrhythmias; or a Matriculation in a Nursing degree program, having completed at least one year of coursework.
The preferred candidate will have excellent customer service skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with others using a collaborative team approach.
