Description of Duties

Directs and coordinates activities of the workers engaged in performing molecular pathology testing to obtain data used in diagnosis, treatment and research. Supervises technical and non-technical staff involved in analyzing and classifying RNA and DNA components for solid and Heme-based malignancies using state-of-the-art testing including FISH, PCR, qPCR, Sanger Sequencing and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Maintains quality and regulatory compliance of the laboratory and staff under the direction of the Clinical Laboratory Director. Responsible for Proficiency testing and competency of lab personnel in molecular testing.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a full license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York or Eligibility for full licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York or posses a restricted license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist within the area of Molecular Diagnostics in the State of New York or eligibility for restricted licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist within the area of Molecular Diagnostics in the State of New York. Applicants must also possess a Doctorate degree in medical or clinical laboratory technology or a related discipline and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a Molecular Pathology laboratory or a Master’s degree in medical or clinical laboratory technology or a related discipline and the equivalent of two years of full-time clinical laboratory experience including one year of experience in a Molecular Pathology laboratory or a Bachelor’s degree in medical or clinical laboratory technology or a related discipline and the equivalent of seven years of full-time clinical laboratory experience including one year of experience in a Molecular Pathology laboratory.

The preferred candidate will have the following: Full NYS Licensure or a NYS Restricted license in Molecular Experience with Quality and Regulatory Compliance in a NYS CLIA Laboratory; Previous experience with basic molecular biology concepts and techniques; Experience with robotic technology; Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel spreadsheet manipulation and statistics; Excellent organizational and strong attention to detail; Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
