Description of Duties

Coordinates work assignments on a daily basis for sterilization and distribution of instruments and equipment used throughout the hospital; assures assignments are completed in a timely manner. Ensures adequate instrumentation and equipment is available through communication, assigning tasks, liaison with other departments and prioritizing according to patient needs Knowledgeable in decontamination and reprocessing all instrumentation Familiar and utilizes all processes associated with reprocessing equipment and sterilization Sets up carts according to parameters Maintains adequate levels of supplies to insure complete case carts Assists subordinates and assigns staff as needed to maintain productivity and efficiency Trains, develops and monitors staff knowledge and education. Ensures that performance deficiencies are managed and addressed. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance and safety and compliance standards.


The applicant must have a Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or equivalent certification from a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in Sterile Processing or a related field and successful completion of the Sterile Processing Technology and Sterile Processing Sterilization courses. The preferred candidate training in SPD or an approved program, CRCST Certification and leadership/ management experience.
