Description of Duties:
The Respiratory Therapist Performs patient assessment to determine appropriateness of therapy. Maintains, delivers, monitors and set up equipment and aerosolized medications and administers respiratory treatment for inpatients and outpatients as ordered by the physician; charts treatment, response and progress as required. Accompanies all ventilator dependent patients during transport to and from testing and treatment sites within the Institute. Participates in professional growth and development activities through educational programs, reading current literature, conducting and participating in inservice meetings and workshops. Provides for proper cleaning and sterilization of all respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe patient care. Must have the ability to provide Pulmonary Function testing and obtain appropriate certification if not certified already.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the State of New York and a Bachelor’s degree with graduation from an American Medical Association (AMA) approved Respiratory Therapy Program and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in respiratory therapy or a related healthcare field; or an Associate’s degree with graduation from an American Medical Association (AMA) approved Respiratory Therapy Program and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in respiratory therapy or a related healthcare field; or a High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of five years of full-time experience in respiratory therapy or a related healthcare field.
