Description of Duties:
The Physician Assistant assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessment. The Physician Assistant works in collaboration with physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up, writes prescriptions for medications and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures and post discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. The Physician Assistant triages patients appropriately and provides emergency treatment as necessary, maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. The Physician Assistant enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature and participating in in-service meetings and workshops and provides oversight and management of the chemotherapy infusion room as well as responds to reactions and/or code blue type situations.
Applicants must possess a license to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York; and certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department along with a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or a Bachelor’s degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.
The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree, three-five years of oncology experience in a PA role in an Ambulatory setting or in-patient unit and possess a current ACLS certification.
