Description of Duties:
Ensures that the patient experience exceeds the expectations of the patient, family, significant other(s), and providers; provides support and timely information to the families of patients who are undergoing surgical interventions or procedures in the perioperative procedural areas; helps to streamline communication between the procedural areas/Surgeons/PACU/ICU and patients families; ensures that continuous quality care is received by all patients; assists patients in accessing needed resources and services to allow them to move through the spectrum of cancer care and into long-term survivorship; provides patients, physicians, lay public, volunteers, and graduate students with resources and information regarding Roswell Park as needed. Maintains appearance of the unit to ensure that the area is kept clean by reaching out to those areas that can rectify issues of this nature; Understands the stressors inherent in waiting and the impact that a calming environment has on the patient families; provides administrative support to nurses, physicians, and other clinical/medical personnel. Provides reminder calls to patients for next days surgery; including reminding patients of restrictions relative to surgery.
Applicants must possess an Associate’s degree in Medical Office Administration or a health related field and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a community, patient or clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology or an Associates degree and the equivalent of two years of full-time secretarial experience in a clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology or High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a community, patient or clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology. The preferred candidate will have experience with a GUI System, with perioperative areas (pre and post setting) with scheduling and be proficient in EHR and PICIS systems.
