Description of Duties

The primary responsibility of the Critical Care APP is the management of a caseload of complex patients in the intermediate care and intensive care settings as needed. The NP/PA will have specialized skill and knowledge related to the critical care setting in which he/she practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications and provides direct patient care for critical care services.

Qualifications

NURSE PRACTITIONER:
Applicants must have a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State;  and a Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Applicants must have a certification or eligibility for Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
 
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Nursing.
 
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:
Applicants must have a license to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York; certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department; and certification or eligibility for Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
 
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or Bachelor’s degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.
 
The preferred candidate will have critical care and oncology experience.
