Description of Duties:
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions in collaboration with physicians to provide comprehensive care to inpatients and outpatients for the Endocrinology Department. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provide diabetes care to outpatients and inpatients with a broad range of endocrine disorders, including endocrine complications of cancer therapy. The practice emphasizes excellent care for patients and health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute chronic health problems. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant assesses health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history, performs physical exams based upon the age and patient history as per the Standard Care plan with a collaborating physician, identifies significant health and medical risk factors, and orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. They also develop a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data, in collaboration with the Endocrine physician, develop treatment plans, perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and Roswell Park privileges, and develop patient education plans. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant participates in medical team rounds, collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care, performs admission history and physical, documents progress notes, prepares discharge summaries as required, and assists with and facilitates discharge planning.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; and a Current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State; and Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). They must also have a Master’s degree in Nursing.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York; and Certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department. They must also have a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or a Bachelor’s degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.
The preferred candidate will have at one year experience as an NP or PA, primary care experience, endocrinology experience, and at least one year of experience as an APP.
