Description of Duties:
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant provides health care services to pediatric and/or adult patients including health promotion, cancer prevention, care for acute and chronic phases of illness as well as patient and family education and counseling; refers patients to other health care providers and community resources when appropriate. The NP/PA assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic studies. Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessment; works in collaboration with physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Writes prescriptions for medications and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures and post discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Reviews findings and determines eligibility for entry into clinical trials. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team; requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals as appropriate. Interprets and evaluates findings from diagnostic studies. Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician. Administers therapeutic measures/obtains specimens as appropriate. Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement in the delivery of care.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; and Current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State; and a Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Applicants must also have Master’s degree in Nursing.
Applicants must have License to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York; and a Certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department. Applicants must also possess a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or Bachelor’s degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.
The preferred candidate will have NYS licensure, two years experience as an Advanced Practice Provider, and two years of NP experience, preferably in a sarcoma, melanoma or an oncology setting.
