Description of Duties:
The Critical Care NP/PA will manage a caseload of complex patients in the intermediate care and intensive care settings as needed. The NP/PA will have specialized skills and knowledge related to the critical care setting in which he/she practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and scheduled laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications and provides direct patient care for critical care services. The NP/PA will direct clinical services to the patients designated as appropriate for level of Critical Care and participates in daily clinical rounds. They will manage critical care patients in accordance with established protocols and evidence based medicine with Intensivist supervision. The NP/PA's management of patients in critical care includes; history/physical examination/order and review of investigations consultations and procedures. They will develop a management plan/documentation of that plan in the EMR, recognize abnormal findings on physical examination and investigations-interprets abnormal results and formulates a plan to resolve abnormal findings. This position coordinates multi-disciplinary treatment plans with the primary services of the patients and ancillary services. The NP/PA can utilize prescriptive privileges, participate in clinical research and supports accreditation compliance and regulatory activities of the organization as well as identifies educational needs of the family, and participates in teaching opportunities. They will be a member of the Rapid Response/Code Blue team which takes first call and attends all repaid responses and code blue for the critical care team. They will assess the patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions as well as initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize the patient.
NURSE PRACTITIONER: License and Certification Requirements: 1. License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; and 2. Current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State; and 3. Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Nursing. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or a Bachelor's degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department as well as a License to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York and a Certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department. The preferred candidate will have one year of experience in a critical care environment as a nurse practitioner/physician assistant.
