Description of Duties:
The Nurse Practitioner assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessment. The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up, writes prescriptions for medications and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures and post discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. The Nurse Practitioner triages patients appropriately and provides emergency treatment as necessary, maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. The Nurse Practitioner enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature and participating in in-service meetings and workshops and provides oversight and management of the chemotherapy infusion room as well as responds to reactions and/or code blue type situations.
Applicants must possess a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; and current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State; and certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA); along with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must obtain certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) within nine months of their appointment to this title as required by Medicare.
The preferred candidate will have three-five years of oncology experience in a NP role in an Ambulatory setting or in-patient unit and possess a current ACLS certification.
