Description of Duties:
The Nurse II (Per Diem) plans, provides and supervises nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer-related health care problems, diagnoses and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling, and provides direct care and assumes responsibility for nursing care of assigned patients. The Nurse II (Per Diem) also administers medications and IV fluids following established policies and procedures, provides interventions supportive or restorative of life and well-being, and executes medical regimens prescribed by a physician, dentist or other licensed health care provider authorized by the State Education Commissioner’s regulations. They also perform administrative tasks within assigned area of responsibility, demonstrate appropriate clinical and administrative decision making abilities, and seek supervisor support for unusual or complex problems. The Nurse II (Per Diem) demonstrates administrative/supervisory skills in monitoring quality care, enhancing patient/family satisfaction and promoting staff satisfaction.
Characteristic of the position is the short, unscheduled notice associated with reporting for duty, the variable nature of the hours worked per payroll period and temporary nature of appointments to this title and the fact that this is a non-benefit earning title.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will have their ACLS and PALS certifications and critical care and/or radiology experience. They will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
