Description of Duties

The Nurse II performs Blood Donor screening and blood product collection procedures in the RPCI Donor center utilizing venipuncture and apheresis techniques. Routine responsibilities include donor eligibility screening, assessment, venous access, procedure initiation, donor monitoring and procedure documentation. Other routine duties include equipment set up/breakdown, blood product transport preparation, and donor management during collection procedures. Positions Primary Function: Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture for Whole Blood and Plateletpheresis procedures for the purpose of providing blood products for RPCI patients; Monitor donors throughout Whole Blood and or Platelepheresis procedure(s); an maintain donor and product safety while adhering to all compliance mandated by State, Federal and accrediting agencies.


Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will possess a NYS licensed as a Registered Nurse Previous; possess experience in a Blood Donor Center; possess previous phlebotomy experience; and possess excellent customer service, communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
