Description of Duties:
The Nurse II performs nursing procedures within the Roswell Park Therapeutic Apheresis and Blood Donor Center. Performs Therapeutic Apheresis procedures in the in-patient and out-patient setting. Routine procedures of the Nurse II include: Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Collection, Donor Lymphocyte Collection, Leukocyte Reduction, Plasma Exchanges, and Photopheresis utilizing multiple apheresis technology devices. The Nurse II executes Therapeutic Phlebotomy procedures and executes routine direct patient management procedures including IV administration, drug administration, blood product transfusion, and laboratory test sample procurement. The Nurse II will have cross coverage responsibility in the Donor Center to perform blood donor screening and product collection procedures utilizing venipuncture and apheresis techniques. Responsibilities include donor eligibility, assessment, venous access, procedure initiation, donor monitoring, and procedure documentation. Other duties include equipment set up/breakdown, and blood product transport preparation. While executing procedures in both areas maintains patient, donor and product safely while maintaining compliance to State, Federal, and accrediting agency standards. This role includes a routine on -call rotation inclusive of weekends.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will have experience in apheresis procedures or dialysis, critical care experience and/or experience in a Blood Donor Collection facility. Excellent Customer service and communication skills are a must.
