Description of Duties:
The Nurse II plans, provides and supervises nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer-related health care problems. The Nurse II diagnoses and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling, provides interventions supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executes medical regimens prescribed by a physician, dentist or other licensed health care provider authorized by the State Education Commissioner’s regulations. They also supervise Nurse I’s, Licensed Practical Nurses, Hospital Clinical Assistants and Clinical Support Assistants, perform administrative tasks with assigned area of responsibility, and enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops. The Nurse II also must be able to assume the care of patients in this medical/surgical setting and is responsible for managing/coordinating patient care and unit based activities, will make patient care assignments based on job descriptions and individual staff capabilities, and will assess plans, implement and evaluate patient care and implement the performance appraisal process of subordinates on assigned shift. They must demonstrate the ability to work with staff members in the identification and resolution of problems related to the management and function of all nursing areas, demonstrate knowledge of the institute and departmental organization, utilize appropriate channels of verbal and non-verbal communication skills and demonstrate professional conduct in the work environment.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will be a team player, compassionate, hard working, and organized.
