Description of Duties:
The Nurse II provides nursing triage and physician referral information to Roswell patients and families via telephone, will use strong assessment skills and knowledge of commonly used medications and their effects and use their knowledge of medical terminology and equipment, will evaluate and report reaction changes in the physical and mental conditions of patients, assess appropriate intervention using nursing process and triage guidelines, and document all encounters with patients seeking health advice and the outcome in the electronic healthcare record. The Nurse II will also make decisions independently using good clinical judgment and triage guidelines, provide patient education when appropriate, register patient visits into the appropriate systems after hours, and complete audits and follow-up as directed.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will possess a BSN degree, will have a minimum of three years experience in oncology in an acute care setting, five years of recent clinical experience in any of the following areas: medical-surgical, critical care, or emergency room, have telephone triage experience of one year or more, and will be board certified in an appropriate specialty (OCN, CCRN, Med-Surg, CCRN, Emergency). They will also have excellent telephone, verbal and interpersonal skills, including careful listening skills, the ability to make decisions independently utilizing professional judgment, excellent relationship building skills, and excellent follow-up skills. They will also have working knowledge of the principles of professional nursing.
