Description of Duties:
The Nurse II triages patient sick calls and communicates with a appropriate service providers. The Nurse II plans, provides and supervises nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer-related health care problems, diagnoses and treats human responses to actual and potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling, and provides interventions supportive to or restorative of life and well-being. The Nurse II executes medical regimens prescribed by a physician, or other licensed health care provider, supervises Hospital Clinical Assistants and Clinical Support Assistants, performs administrative tasks within assigned area of responsibility, and assists providers with procedures in a fast paced Acute Care Center/Unit. They will also provide nursing triage and physician referral information to Roswell patients and families via telephone; have strong assessment skills; knowledge of commonly used medications and their effects; knowledge of medical terminology and equipment; ability to evaluate and report reaction changes in the physical and mental conditions of the patient; assess appropriate intervention using nursing process and triage guidelines; document all encounters with patients seeking health advice and the outcome in the electronic healthcare record; make decisions independently using good clinical judgment and triage guidelines; provide patient education when appropriate; register patient visit into the appropriate systems after hours; complete audits and follow up as directed.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing. In addition, applicants must have either one year of full-time oncology experience; one year of full time critical care experience; or three years of medical surgical experience in an acute care setting. The preferred candidate will possess a BSN, OCN, Med surg, CCRN, or related board certifications, have five years of recent clinical experience in any of the following areas: medical-surgical, critical care, emergency room; Will have telephone triage experience of at least one year; and have experience in ambulatory care and surgery/procedure experience. They will also have excellent telephone, verbal and interpersonal skills, including careful listening skills, excellent relationship building skills, and excellent follow-up skills.
