Description of Duties:
The Medical Social Worker II will provide clinical social work and counseling to patients/families/caregivers. The Social Worker will prepare diagnostic assessments of mental, emotional, behavioral, addictive, developmental disabilities and psychosocial aspects of illness, injury, and impairments all within psychosocial framework. The Social Worker will administer tests/measures of psychosocial functioning and develop treatment plans. The Social Worker will be able to participate in research collaboration with other staff. The Social Worker will act as a consultant to the multi-disciplinary team re: psychosocial issues/concerns and coordinate family meetings as needed. The Social Worker may also be asked to provide clinical supervision of social work students and attend meetings and perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Director or Senior Social Worker.
Applicants must have New York State licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and be eligible for the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In addition, a Master’s degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited facility and the equivalent of one year of full time experience in Medical Social Work, bereavement counseling, and/or experience in a comprehensive cancer center or related field is required.
The preferred candidate will be a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker - "R" credentialed or eligible; will have at least one year of medical social work experience in an acute care setting; discharge planning experience and experience in a comprehensive cancer center with exposure to grief/bereavement counseling. A clinical counseling background is also preferred along with previous participation in research studies.
