Enterostomal Therapy Nurse
The Enterostomal Therapy Nurse participates in the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of Enterostomal Therapy (ET) services in clinical, ambulatory and outreach areas which serve adult and pediatric patient populations in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the standards of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN); assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents education needs to ensure high quality enterostomal patient care; enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and Board Certification in Enterostomal Therapy from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Society (WOCN). They must also have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with graduation from an accredited Enterostomal Therapy Nurse Education Program and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in Oncology or Enterostomal Therapy nursing; or a Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and graduation from an accredited Enterostomal Therapy Nurse Education Program and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in Oncology or Enterostomal Therapy nursing. The preferred candidate will be BLS certified, will have two years of working as an RN in a hospital setting, experience working with oncology patients, and wound, skin, ostomy care experience, including the ability to assess wounds and make treatment recommendations, perform wound VAC changes, assess ostomies, and teach patients to care for ostomies. They will also have excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work effectively with different disciplines and the ability to work independently.
