Description of Duties

The Clinical Pharmacist - Specialist will be a a highly motivated individual interested in providing clinical pharmacy services for a core group of cancer patients (specific therapeutic area) in inpatient and ambulatory setting. In collaboration with the medical team, the responsibilities of the Clinical Pharmacist - Specialist will include optimizing drug therapy, therapeutic drug monitoring, prospectively evaluating drug therapy (especially antineoplastic therapy) for appropriate indication, dosage, drug interactions, adverse drug events and allergies, chemotherapy and other medications orders review, provision of drug information, and patient counseling and education. They will act as a liaison between pharmacy and medical staff to educate health professionals regarding current drug-related procedures, policies, guidelines, and treatment pathways, amd participate in quality assurance programs to enhance pharmaceutical care. The Clinical Pharmacist - Specialist will be also responsible for developing and implementing pharmacy programs, initiatives, precepting PGY2 oncology specialty residents and pharmacy students, and providing educational lectures for medical and pharmacy staff. This position requires some involvement in clinical research.


Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of New York. They must also have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree; or a Master’s degree and the equivalent of one year of full-time clinical pharmacy or pharmacy-related experience; or a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of three years of full-time clinical pharmacy or pharmacy-related experience. The preferred candidate will be board certified in oncology and will have PGY 2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Training. They will also have previous experience in providing clinical pharmacy services, experience in an oncology setting, and experience in practical and didactic training of pharmacy students and residents.
