Description of Duties:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work with the Chief Nursing Officers and other nursing leadership at OCH and RPCI in collaboration with the Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders Program of WNY physician director and executive director to assist in building a seamless program through development of standard operating procedures and clinical guidelines, expansion of a pediatric hematology/oncology/stem cell transplant training curriculum, and ongoing maintenance of best clinical practices so that care is delivered in a consistent way between the outpatient and inpatient centers. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will oversee clinical operational issues related to flow through the two centers, work on special projects (e.g., computerized ordering of chemotherapy), assist with the development of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) competencies in conjunction with the BMT program, and interface with other task forces in development and operation of clinical program (e.g., clinical trials, information technology, patient satisfaction/quality, etc).
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
Education and Experience
1. Master’s degree in Nursing, appropriate certification, 16 CEU’s annually and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time nursing experience in an oncology support setting; or
2. Master’s degree in Nursing, appropriate certification, 16 CEU’s annually and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time nursing experience in an acute care support setting.
The preferred candidate will have leadership skills with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology experience Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant/High Dose Therapy experience as well as Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Certified.
