Description of Duties:
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant processes requests and receives clinical laboratory/clinical research/research testing material within the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine; accessions, processes, and routes clinical laboratory testing material to appropriate clinical testing area; transcribes, prints, sorts, mails, and faxes laboratory reports; handles requests for laboratory reports, specimen tracking, and laboratory requests via phone, email, mail, and other correspondence methods; assists with the performance of laboratory quality control, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities; maintains laboratory supply inventories and processes requests for supply orders. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant provides support to the Director and Associate Director of Flow Cytometry; assists with scheduling/calendar management, preparing materials for meetings, and minutes as needed. Assists with the preparation of communications, including department newsletter; performs timekeeper responsibilities; and assists with activities relating to billing and invoicing.
Applicants must have an Associate’s degree in a Healthcare discipline; or an 2. Associate’s degree and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and current enrollment in an approved BS program in Clinical Laboratory Technology; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of two years of full time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology. The preferred candidate will have previous experience in a laboratory or Healthcare setting; excellent typing and organizational skills; experience with calendar management; billing and purchasing experience; excellent customer service and communication skills; proficiency in the use of MS Office suite including Word and Excel, and the ability to work with a diverse population.
