The Clinical Informatics Specialist will use their knowledge of provider and ancillary staff workflows, clinical informatics, and information technology to support and disseminate the strategic initiatives and vision for clinical applications and informatics projects as developed by the CMIO. Additionally, and in collaboration with the CMIO, this individual will further develop and refine informatics strategies and vision that will allow Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to be more competitive by improving clinical outcomes, streamlining and optimizing clinical systems workflows, and decreasing operational costs. This individual will facilitate communication and act as an advocate and change agent across all levels of the organization to promote the adoption of new processes and technologies. This specific position will focus on defining and presenting clinical, system utilization, and patient-reported outcomes data, and facilitating process and outcomes improvement activities that align with organizational strategic initiatives and programs.
Applicants must have Doctoral degree in a health, computer science, or informatics related field; or a Master’s degree in a health, computer science, or informatics related field, and the equivalent of one year of fulltime healthcare informatics and/or direct patient care experience in a healthcare delivery setting; or a Bachelor’s degree in a health, computer science, or informatics related field, and the equivalent of three years of full-time healthcare informatics and/or direct patient care experience in a healthcare delivery setting; or an Associates degree in a health, computer science, or informatics related field, and the equivalent of five years of fulltime healthcare informatics and/or direct patient care experience in a healthcare delivery setting; or a High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma with a diploma or certificate in a health, computer science, or informatics related field and the equivalent of seven years of full-time healthcare informatics and/or direct patient care experience in a healthcare delivery setting. The preferred candidate will have an active license as an RN or PA, certification or graduate degree in clinical informatics, direct patient care experience, project management experience or knowledge of project management principles, experience using Allscripts Sunrise EHR, experience implementing, optimizing, and/or supporting Allscripts Sunrise EHR, and proficient use of Microsoft Excel and Visio, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, the candidate will possess advanced understanding of clinical workflows and the intergration of information technology systems; be able to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with diverse groups of professionals; be able to bring a diverse group of individuals to consensus in planning sessions; be able to lead and engage teams of IT professionals, clinicians, and clinical support staff. Will have excellent organizational, presentation, communication, facilitation and leadership skills - must be able to present material concepts and vision, clearly and with confidence. Will be able to devise methodologies and solutions, perform analyses, and relate relevant information to and for appropriate stakeholders and audiences. Will have the ability to flex with ever changing needs of a complex and dynamic organization and healthcare industry. Must have advanced knowledge and experience in the principles and practices of clinical informatics, systems analysis, computer programming and computer operations. Must have advanced knowledge of healthcare related IT systems such as EHR, ancillary systems (lab, pathology, etc.), ADT systems and interface engines. Must have advanced experience with the design, build, validation and training of EHR systems. Must have vision - see the big picture, bring that vision to the clinical and IT staff, and encourage and solicit participation and support for such vision. Must be motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and work on multiple highly complex projects at the same time. Must have excellent critical thinking and analytical aptitude. Must have the aptitude for creative and out-of-the-box thinking. Must have effective planning and problem-solving skills. Must possess advanced technical expertise. Must have strong analytical skills necessary to collaborate with CMIO and other senior Clinical Informatics team members in the design of complex IT solutions. Must have confidence making complex decisions with great impact to clinical end-users and patients alike often with little available guidelines, precedence, or established best practices. Must have the ability to effectively proiritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure fast-paced environment. Must have advanced understanding of hopsital business and clinical operations. Must have comprehensive knowledge of cllinical best practices, policies, regulatory and compliance standards. Must have the ability to translate technical terminology and concepts for understanding by non-technical audiences. Will have the ability to support a flexible weekday work schedule which could include early morning or early evening meetings to accommodate the schedules of other executive and clinical staff. While infrequent, will have the ability to occasionally support a flexible schedule which could include long weekday hours, evenings, night shifts, or weekends to assist and/or oversee the training and support needed for major implementation efforts. Travel is minimal and would include conferences and networking with regional and national cancer centers or informatics groups.
