The Clinical Associate assists with numerous duties involving direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse; cleans and decontaminates all surfaces within designated areas; performs between case cleaning, terminal cleaning and precaution room cleaning; maintains and promotes sterility of designated areas; prepares each patient care room for the next occupant as rooms become available. Transporting patients from the preoperative area to PACU and from PACU to preoperative area. Transportation of patients to inpatient units when the transport team unavailable (after hours). Keeping up with logs and helping stock the unit. Retrieving of beds from ICU and IMCU for patients if needed. Empties and removes all laundry, regular and infectious trash. Provides safe transportation of patients to all departments in a manner that is appropriate to the patients clinical and age/developmental status and is safe. Provides transportation of patients to Institute exits at discharge or other units upon transfer. Collects and delivers specimens to appropriate destination. Retrieves/delivery pharmaceuticals, supplies or blood products. Assists with clerical work when requested, including answering telephones, entering computer data, maintaining medical records, etc.; completes work of the Clinical Support Assistant in his/her absence as assigned. Performs a variety of other errands as requested. Maintains a neat, clean, orderly and safe patient care environment as by:ensuring that all patient care and support locations are clean and free of trash/clutter; ensuring that linen is appropriately stored and that soiled linen is emptied and disposed of properly; removing equipment/supplies not in use; cleaning reusable equipment and returning it to the appropriate service department; identifying safety hazards and takes immediate appropriate action; performing routine cleaning activities (medical refrigerators, medication cart, etc.) as per routine; monitoring refrigerator temperatures and taking appropriate action when temperature is out of range. Participates in team dynamics activities and service enhancement programs which result in enhanced patient care. Maintains and respects patient confidentiality and privacy; adheres to Institute policies on these matters. Adheres to policies and procedures of the Institute and the department. Inspects and monitors the quality and condition of supplies routinely; maintains inventory; distributes inventory to areas as needed; distributes laundry to all areas as needed; monitors all sterile goods for damage and expiration date; monitors oxygen supply equipment and assures that adequate supplies are available. Complies with and is knowledgeable of Institute and department policies/procedures and standards of care. Attends and completes required mandatory in-services on an annual basis.
The candidate should possess a High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma. The preferred candidate will have one year of experience as an Hospital Clinical Assistant, Clinical Assistant or Aide, and experience in perioperative services.
