$24.32 per hour. Includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Description of Duties:
The Child Life Specialist provides activities and services to meet the psychosocial, emotional and developmental needs of children of adult patients. The Child Life Specialist establishes and maintains a supportive, helpful, and trusting relationship with pediatric family members of adult patients and reports and documents observations, assessments, and interventions to other healthcare professionals. They also provide assessment, consultation, education, and intervention for the children of adult oncology patients upon referral and develop and maintain a library of printed resources for patients, families, and professionals.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field and three months of full-time experience in Child Life Position in a medical setting; or a Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field and a completion of a three month Child Life internship. The preferred candidate will have a Master's in Child Life, their Child Life Certification, experience working with oncology patients and children of oncology patients, and will have completed a child life internship/practicum. They will also have knowledge of word processing programs, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, eagerness and ability to work with others, and the ability and initiative to accept responsibility for personal roles, growth, and learning. They must demonstrate competence in and understanding of helping relationships, human growth and development, family dynamics, interpersonal communication, developmental observation/assessment, learning process, group dynamics, children's reactions to illness and hospitalization, therapeutic interventions, play activities, childhood diseases and supervisory skills.
