Description of Duties

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in performing Cytology procedures to obtain data for use in diagnosis, treatment and research; supervises technical and non-technical staff involved in the technical preparation of samples for cytological review; provides direct administrative and clinical support to the Director of Cytology, Department Chairman and Administrator; screens, evaluates and interprets gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides; enters diagnosis into computer; maintains records; assists on fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures.

Qualifications

The applicant must have possession of a full license to practice as a Cytotechnologist in the State of New York; or eligibility for full licensure as a Cytotechnologist in the State of New York. The applicant must have a Master’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related discipline and the equivalent of four years of full-time experience as a Cytotechnologist; or Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related discipline and the equivalent of six years of full time experience as a Cytotechnologist; or Bachelor’s degree with a one year course of study at an accredited school of Cytotechnology and the equivalent of eight years of full-time experience as a Cytotechnologist. The preferred candidate will have previous/current Cytology experience in a hospital setting and leadership/management skills along with other relevant clinical/health care experience.
