Description of Duties:
The Special Police Officers ensure the safety and protection of Institute patients, visitors, staff and property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal activities. The duties of a Special Police Officer, include, but are not limited to, maintaining their status as a NYS Peace Officer and meeting annual firearms qualification. The Special Police Officer must be eligible and maintain status as a New York State Peace Officer, must possess a current NYS Pistol Permit, pass a psychological test/review, and meet minimum medical and fitness standards. They also must qualify with duty issued firearm.
Applicants must have a Valid New York State driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within thirty days of appointment; and Certification or the ability to obtain certification as a New York State Peace Officer within one year of appointment; and a Current Pistol Permit or the ability to submit an application for a New York State Pistol Permit within sixty days of appointment. They must also have a Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at RPCI. Along with this, applicants Must be at least 21 years of age; and Must be a United States citizen; Must pass drug test(s) and the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA); and Must pass a psychological evaluation. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent of 120 college credit hours) AND one year experience as a Peace or Police Officer or an Associate's Degree (or equivalent of 60 college credit hours) AND two years experience as a Peace or Police Officer.
