Description of Duties:
The Special Police Lieutenant manages the public safety staff during their assigned shift. The Special Police Lieutenant supervises a staff of Public Safety Officers who perform general security work for the protection of persons and property and the enforcement of Roswell Park, Federal, State and local laws, policies and procedures and rules and regulations. They manage the prevention of losses due to accidents and incidents and possess arrest powers while on duty. The duties of the Special Police Lieutenant, include, but are not limited to, the qualification and the potential use of firearms.
Applicants must have a Valid New York State driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within thirty days of appointment; and Certification or the ability to obtain certification as a New York State Peace Officer within one year of appointment; and a Current Pistol Permit or the ability to submit an application for a New York State Pistol Permit within sixty days of appointment. They must also have a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at RPCI; or an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or a related field and the equivalent of four years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at RPCI; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of six years of full-time experience in a law enforcement or security organization, exposed to functions similar to those at RPCI. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, must be a United States citizen, must pass drug test(s) and the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA), and must pass a psychological evaluation. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent to 120 credit hours) and seven years experience as a Peace or Police Officer. They will also have at least three years of experience as a supervisor, preferably in a law enforcement or security setting, similar to that of Roswell Park. They will possess exceptional communication and writing skills, including writing and reviewing Training Program and Manuals, Criminal and Civil Investigation Reports, Organization Policies, and/or developing Departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
