Description of Duties

The Senior Programmer/Analyst performs advanced, expert level computer application development and support. The Senior Programmer/Analyst develops operations solutions by guiding development of program specifications, oversees testing efforts, leads programmers, and provides expert analysis and design of complex and integrated systems. They also develop and implement coding standards, testing standards and IT development best practices, provide direction, leadership and oversight of lower level programmers/analysts, and work directly with IT applications administration in defining customer priorities and IT quality management practices. The Senior Programmer/Analyst acts as an IT technical expert in the business areas that are being supported, instructs, directs and checks the work of other applications systems analysis and programming personnel, and performs quality assurance review.


Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems or a related field and the equivalent of four years of full-time experience in programming of mainframe or PC information systems as it relates to technology used at the organization. The preferred candidate will possess the ability to clearly communicate with management, business owners and other technical support colleagues, will be a creative problem solver, detail oriented and able to work closely with designers. The preferred candidate will also have experience with web security, developing and implementing new software programs from business requirements and maintaining existing software, will have experience with .NET programming (C#, VB, WPF), version control systems and software branching, and code review processes and with HL7 V2, V3 and FHIR interface. Also, the candidate will have the ability to resolve software bugs from logs and end use reports with standard debugging techniques, will have the ability to interface data between systems with standard APIs such JSON RPC2, XMLRPC, SOAP, REST, etc., will have an understanding of software performance through monitoring and improvement, and will have an understanding of SQL and relational databases and a knowledge of data analytics and reporting methodologies. The preferred candidate should have web specific knowledge such as HTTP protocol and client/server network architecture, as well as front end web technologies, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, JSON, experience and comfort with Linux Operating System, and experience programming with server-side web technologies including but not limited to PHP (e.g. node, python, etc.).
