The Public Health Associate responds to HIV, STD and Hepatitis C telephone inquiries from the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Services (DOCCS) incarcerated population using various available resources. The Public Health Associate also assembles and sends out mass mailings regarding education, prevention and services for HIV, STDs and Hepatitis C, assists in providing linkage and navigation services to callers to the hotline, and completes call record form for each call. They also assist the Program Director with clerical duties or outreach/promotional events.
Applicants must have a Associate’s degree in an appropriate field and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a call center, customer service and/or healthcare related field; or a High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a call center, customer service and/or healthcare related field. The preferred candidate will have knowledge of HIV, STDs, and Hepatitis risk factors, prevention and treatment and knowledge of the criminal justice environment. They will also have good written and verbal communication skills and bi-lingual communication skills (English/Spanish). They will have the ability to work independently and proactively, will be able to follow office procedures and confidentiality rules, and will be a team worker.
