Description of Duties:
The Patient Care Liaison ensures that the patient experience exceeds the expectations of the patient, family, significant other(s), and providers. The Patient Care Liaison provides support and timely information to the families of patients who are undergoing surgical interventions or procedures in the perioperative procedural areas, helps to streamline communication between the procedural areas/Surgeons/PACU/ICU and patients families, and ensures that continuous quality care is received by all patients. They also assist patients in accessing needed resources and services to allow them to move through the spectrum of cancer care and into long-term survivorship, coordinate with other internal services to facilitate timely cancer care and to encourage an adequate patient adherence, and provide patients, physicians, lay public, volunteers, and graduate students with resources and information regarding Roswell Park as needed. The Patient Care Liaison also maintains appearance of the unit to ensure that the area is kept clean by reaching out to those areas that can rectify issues of this nature, understands the stressors inherent in waiting and the impact that a calming environment has on the patient families, and provides administrative support to nurses, physicians, and other clinical/medical personnel. They also provide reminder calls to patients for next days surgery, including reminding patients of restrictions relative to surgery.
1. Associate’s degree in Medical Office Administration or a health related field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in a community, patient or clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology; or
2. Associates degree and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time secretarial experience in a clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology; or
3. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in a community, patient or clinical setting requiring the use of medical terminology.
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
