Description of Duties

The Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator promotes professional development of all nursing personnel. The Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator provides orientation, functions as an expert educator and consultant, assesses, plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational programs designed to meet identified learning needs, provides educational interventions that enhance growth and allow nursing staff to provide high quality nursing care to all oncology patients, and leads nursing quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the unit managers. They also manage the clinical competency assessment processes, continuously identify and implement evidence-based nursing practice and research and assists with patient care activities to maintain clinical competence, and serve as a role model for nursing personnel and as a patient advocate, change agent and leader. The Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator assesses, plans and evaluates the nursing process using a high level of expertise, works actively with the Nursing leadership and managers to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical care, and develops and delivers education based on the needs of the units as assigned.


Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of three years of full-time, hands-on nursing experience within the past five years, including education/preceptor experience. They must also have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and National Oncology Certification.
