Description of Duties:
The Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator promotes professional development of all nursing personnel, provides orientation, functions as an expert educator and consultant, assesses, plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational programs designed to meet identified learning needs, and provides educational interventions that enhance growth and allow nursing staff to provide high quality nursing care to all oncology patients. The Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator also leads nursing quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the unit managers, manages the clinical competency assessment processes, continuously identifies and implements evidence-based nursing practice and research and assists with patient care activities to maintain clinical competence, and serves as a role model for nursing personnel and as a patient advocate, change agent and leader. They also assess, plan and evaluate the nursing process using a high level of expertise, work actively with the Nursing leadership and managers to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical care, and develop and deliver education based on the needs of the units as assigned.
Applicants must have a License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York and National Oncology Certification. They must also have a Master’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of three years of full-time, hands-on nursing experience within the past five years, including education/preceptor experience.The preferred candidate will have oncology experience/knowledge of oncology nursing practices, knowledge of basic med/surg nursing practice, computer literacy in Microsoft Office and database management, and leadership and analytical skills, including the ability to manage, mentor and assist staff in times of crisis. They will also have the knowledge and skills to provide care tailored to the population served and will have the ability to assess competencies in nursing staff and provide the necessary education to achieve required competencies.
